A new initiative was announced today by the New Zealand government will see up to 300 18 to 30 year olds be able to live and work in Brazil for up to a year.  The agreement is a reciprocal agreement, bring the same amount of Brazilians to New Zealand.

Up until last year young Brazilians were a welcome addition in many tourist towns in New Zealand (particularly backpacking mecca of Queenstown) where they could easily gain temporary work permits after arriving for many of the unfilled cleaning and hospitality roles that makes the resorts tick.

Late last year, however, saw a crack down on the issuing of these visas, plus ongoing issues with extremely low rates of pay has seen a massive drop off in the number of young Brazilians.  This new measure will be welcomed whole heartedly by tourist operators in the main regions this summer desperate to attract back this source of labour.
