He comes from Hapshire in the UK, last year he traveller Africa sleeping on the top of his Range Rover by night and Bungy jumping, scuba diving, mountain biking, leading tours, and running marathons by day. Well not much is going to change for Mr Southall as he takes up residence on the fabulous Hamilton Island in Queenslands’ Whitsundays - except that he gets to sleep in a luxurious three bedroom villa overlooking the Great Barrier Reef.
Us travel types get jealous at just hearing that someone is travelling through the Whitsundays availing of all the amazing activites such as some of the best snorkelling in the world and brilliant sailing. But for Ben he will not only gets to do these activities but will also be paid a handsome AUD$150,000 for his six month stint as “caretaker” of the Whitsundays.
Ben was named winner of the Tourism Queensland competition from over 34,000 other entrants only a matter of hours ago. The final sixteen have been there for a week or so undergoing a series of trials and tests.
He will now officlially take residence on the Island doing not much more than lots of adventure activities and lying on the beach - oh, and writing a weekly blog promoting the Reef and the Whitsundays in general.
Keep an eye on Backpacking Queensland website as they seem to one of the first off the ranks with this information and I would expect them to get content and interviews with Ben.
